Gutters are somehow helping the house to extend the durability of the walls windows ceilings doors etc... they are used to re-route the water to the specified path and let the whole sum of water collected to a certain location either for storage or in to the lawn. Gutters are available in many types and shapes. The choice of selection of apt gutter depends on the architecture of the house and the climatic condition rather than the preference factor of the folks. Gutters serve many purposes other than water redirection like prevents the house from mold and formation of fungus which is very predominant in the region with the highest rainfall.
To see what it looks like Google "Waterloov gutter guards". With two rows of louvers no debris can wash in from the lip of the gutter and you can be confident that the gutter inside will never clog. Since 1989 this design has been used with great success on tens of thousands of homes. Maintenance is always an issue with all types of gutter guards. With screens they either have to be removed to clean the gutters inside or the tops have to be cleaned which often proves a big problem. The rounded nose or fin type (with or without the trough) have to be taken off the gutters disconnected from the roof and then reinstalled whereas with the louvered products they can usually be maintained by brushing with a telescopic pole and brush assembly. Removal of the gutter guards are never required with the double row design however with the single row design it may be necessary to remove the gutter cover at the downspout. In summary the best gutter guard for heavy debris conditions is the double row louvered gutter cover which can easily be maintained with a telescopic pole and brush (as high as two floors) and never clogs inside.
Still another question: Even if you could have self cleaning gutters how about self cleaning leafguards? Am I getting ahead of myself? Having been in the business of gutter protection for over twenty years I can say that Ive only seen three types of leafguards that dont let the gutters clog inside. One was a flat louvered screen device. When we inspected the gutter inside they were clean enough to eat upon. The problem was that the top of the gutter covers were completely closed off with pine needles--looked like a thatched roof and water could not enter the gutter. So I must ask What good is it if no water can enter the gutter? The second type is a micro mesh flat screen that likewise gets installed on top of the gutter. And just as with the screen nothing gets into the gutter when it clogs on top. Now the louvered system previously mentioned only costs about $3.00 per foot to have installed and the micro mesh product can cost nearly $20 per foot. I think youll agree that neither keeps the homeowner off ladders if they routinely need their tops to be cleaned.
Pros: · They give a trendy look to the house · Available for complex architecture and no need of special joints for fitting purpose · Leakage and rust are not occurring often as seams are present in some portion throughout the length. · The durability is more compared to standard gutter as they do not have impact over the freezing expansion and contraction. · They stay strong over a long duration and dont provide a way for the debris and leaves. So maintenance is not required very often. Cons: · Installation cost is more · Cannot be done by the common folks as DIY · Even the gutter cleaning and replacement should be done by hiring the professionals Despite all these ups and downs both the gutter types are still preferred in most of the regions based on the need.
